The sweetness of this frosting can easily be adjusted to taste by reducing the powdered sugar you add. Note that reducing the powdered sugar will reduce the stiffness of the frosting. If you want to maintain a stiff frosting consistency you can add small amounts of corn starch one tablespoon at a time while you mix until you hit your target consistency.
In this recipe you'll want to be sure to use the "brick" type cream cheese rather than the tub of more easily spreadable cream cheese.

Recipe
Ingredients:
- 56 grams (1/2 stick or 1/4 cup) softened butter (unsalted)
- 113 grams (4 oz) cream cheese at room temperature
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of matcha powder
- 250 grams (2 cups) of powdered sugar (adjust to taste as desired)
- 1-2 tablespoon of corn starch (optional to make stiffer frosting or make up for reduced sugar)
Instructions:
Step 1:
Mix together your cream cheese and butter until completely combined and smooth
Step 2:
Add in salt and vanilla extract, stirring until fully combined
Step 3:
Add matcha powder to the mixture and mix until fully incorporated and you have a consistent green mixture
Step 4:
Slowly add powdered sugar until you reach your desired consistency and sweetness. We don't recommend exceeding 250 grams (2 cups) unless you want very, very sweet frosting
Step 5:
If using corn starch to thicken, mix in one tablespoon at a time until you achieve your desired consistency
Step 6:
Apply to cake or cupcakes by spreading or piping
